Foxdell Infant School Head Teacher Personal Statement

Governors' Duties

Whilst the Headteacher has responsibility for the day-to-day running of the school, the main function of the Governing Board is to act as a critical friend in order to secure a good education for the children in a safe environment. If you are interested in becoming a Governor, please contact the school. Involvement in the Governing Board provides a challenging and interesting way of being involved in your children’s education. Free training is provided in all areas of Governor responsibility.

The Governing Board meets at least six times a year and has two main Sub-Committees:

Finance, Personnel and Premises
Curriculum and Standards

Below is a list of all our Governors, their areas of responsibility and terms of office. You will also find a record of attendance at meetings reported under Attendance at Meetings along with any Governor vacancies.

 The Governing Body

  • Mr. Nicholas Whitbread - Parent Governor (Chair)

I became a Parent Governor in November 2016 and I have two children at Buckton Vale.

I have lived in Carrbrook all my life and very dedicated to the community. I am a leader at the local Scout Group and lead the Beavers Colony every Monday night.

I currently work for Rochdale Council as a Practice Manager for the Cared for Children Team. I manage Social Workers who are the lead professional for Rochdale's children who are in public care. This job means I have a lot of experience with safeguarding vulnerable children, hence why I am allocated the role of Designated Safeguarding Governor for the School.

Outside of work and my voluntary work I enjoy spending time with my family, walking, running, football (all sports really!) and watching movies.

I am currently the assigned Governor for Year 5.

Over the last six years I have attended most governing board meetings, been involved in the recruitment of two headteachers and become vice-chair. As a former pupil and a parent I have a strong connection with the school and I enjoy being able to play a part in its growth and development. I work as a head of languages in a large 11-18 school and enjoy having the opportunity to find out about education in a primary school, and being able to bring an insight into education at Year 7 and up.

I’ve acquired over twelve years' development experience, five of which have been developing medical software and applications. Your browser is not secure

You're seeing this page because your web browser tried to connect to Warwick's website with insecure settings. Please upgrade your web browser.

The TLS 1.0 encryption protocol is disabled across the University's web services. Disabling TLS 1.0 prevents it from being used to access Warwick websites via an insecure web browser or application. We've made this change to keep the University's websites safe and secure.

What do I need to do?

When accessing websites using a web browser, ensure you use the latest available version of the browser – whether that is Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari or another browser. Using the latest version keeps you safe online because you're using the most up-to-date security settings.

Why is this happening?

Although TLS 1.0, when configured properly, has no known security vulnerabilities, newer protocols are designed better to address the potential for new vulnerabilities.

The PCI Data Security Standard 3.1 recommends disabling “early TLS”:

“SSL and early TLS are not considered strong cryptography and cannot be used as a security control after June 30, 2016 [without a mitigation strategy for disabling it before June 2018].

[...]

The best response is to disable SSL entirely and migrate to a more modern encryption protocol, which at the time of publication is a minimum of TLS v1.1, although entities are strongly encouraged to consider TLS v1.2.”

We need to be PCI-compliant to take online payments at the University. It is not sufficient to merely disable TLS 1.0 on our transaction tracking system as the requirement extends to any system that initiates a payment, including car parking, printer credits, the Warwick website, etc.
